The problem there I guess, as Peter Higginbotham says, records identifying anyone less than 100 years old may be difficult to obtain.

I'm just wondering what the voting regulations were regarding institutions then. There was a General Election in 1931 and 10 people in "Unioin" are listed in the Electoral Register as Rw (meaning all women with a Residence qualification). Catton Tansley was diagnosed as Senile on the death certificate.

I guess I will have to stick with "The balance of probablilties" on this one.

Cheers Alan

I would try the records office, if only to confirm the status of the address.

However, it was a pleasure to find her in 1901 for you.  :)

Many thanks for your help - much appreciated.

I am part way through a four part magnum opus on the Tansley family of Cottingham. In fact as soon as I've finished this segment, I have another Madeline Tansley (Madeline and Kate's first cousin) who was born in 1851, had an illegitimate son in 1877 and disappears from the records before the census of 1881.

Nothing unusual there though!

Cheers Alan

Hi,

I found this which might mention Cotton depending on when and/or if she was in the Alton Union in 1929,

https://www.rootschat.com/links/01qy1/

It might be worth contacting them to see if they can look at this for you.

Regards,
Daisy
