Aston cum Aughton - John Handley marriage - 1780.
« on: Sunday 19 September 21 19:50 BST (UK) »
I believe John Handley, born 1756, married at Aston cum Aughton in 1780.

Can some kind person put me out of my misery and tell me who he married and when.

Only one possibility at Aston cum Aughton:

John Handley, a farmer, bachelor, and Rebecca Darwent, spinster, both of this parish married after Banns 3 August 1780 in the presence of George Thomson and Benjamin Handley, Farrier? Furrier? or Farmer  :-\ Both signed the Register.

Added: the next entry in the Register is for John Darwent, a labourer, and Martha Duckenfield who were married at the same church on 29 August 1780.  John signed, Martha made her mark.

Blimey! That was quick. Many thanks. I shall sleep contentedly tonight.

Interesting. There were several marriages between the Handleys and the Darwents. Another one to add to the list.

Just seen the burials. Gratefully received. I had John's burial but obviously not Rebecca's as I didn't know her identity until a few minutes ago.

I can't thank you enough for all this info.
