WW1 Medal help please.
« on: Monday 20 September 21 14:50 BST (UK) »
CWGC site shows A/Cpl 48846 William Ernest Johnson of 12th King's KIA 16 August 1917

Yet Service Medal cards and this Card show a W Johnson 48846 in Labour Corps as well and Discharged 20/05/1918 on Disability

Am I mixing up two different Soldiers please?

He married Ethel May Mullin and had sons
George Ernest 1913
Wilfred 1914
Alfred 1915

Hello

As you have someone who was KIA and someone who survived, it looks to me that the shared name and number is a coincidence, and that they are two separate people.

I don't know about now, but in WW1 I believe that the service numbers were allocated a regimental level, so it was possible for soldiers in different regiments to have the same service number.

Have you found any records for A/CPl Johnson of the 12th King's?

Best wishes

Rockford

Yes you are mixing up two different people. The one who survived was a William L Johnson. His labour Corps number 46646, but he had previously served in the Works Battalion of the Liverpool Regiment, number 41784.

Cheers
