Minnie Florence BLACK was my wife’s paternal Grandmother. She married William Meredith HAUGHEY in Belfast on 02 April 1917 and died on 27 September 1971 at 327 Oldpark Road, Belfast. I am struggling to find her date of birth and parents and really need a fresh pair of eyes ……!
What (I think) I know! We have a copy of the Marriage Certificate. It says Minnie was 23 and living at 3 Ballyclare Street so that would suggest she was born in 1894. The Certificate gives her father as J BLACK (deceased). There is also a New York Passenger Arrival Card from 1958 which gives a birth date of 04 September 1895 but there is no birth record for this date on either GRONI or Irish Genealogy.
The 1911 Census has a Mary BLACK of the right age living at 3 Ballyclare Street. The head of the household is a James BLACK (millwright) but he is listed as her grandfather. There is also another granddaughter, Ann BLACK b 1892. The 1901 Census has Annie (9), Minnie (7) and another grandchild, Maud (4). It is not clear whether the three girls have the same parents - I have not found birth records for any of them. The 1901 Census also has another James BLACK in the house (the son of James, the millwright) but he is shown as unmarried and dies in June 1901.
I feel like there is a missing piece of the jigsaw that I am just not seeing – can anyone here help?
