Thomas Enser abt 1796 - Baptism Record

I wonder if you can help me please?

I'm looking for the Baptism Record for Thomas Enser. I think his DOB is around 1796. According to the Census of 1841 he is living in Bucknell, It shows his age as 45 years old and his Wife Elizabeth as 35 years old. The Census appears to indicate that he was born in Oxfordshire.

I have found a Thomas Enser born in 1786 from Fringford, however as you can see from the dates they just do not hang together, so I'm pretty sure it is not this Thomas.

If I can locate the Baptism Record there is a good chance I will be able to identify his parents,

In 1851 census the youngest child Phoebe is with her "widowed mother" Elizabeth --gamekeepers wifdow. Looks as though Thomas Enser died 1849 Bicester aged 63, this ties in with the 1786 baptism you found.

For info only, Elizabeth's maiden name was BERRY as recorded on Phoebe's GRO birth record.

as Elizabeth is 10 years younger than Thomas on the 1841 census
this is a possible

Hi All
Thanks for looking. The biggest discrepancy is the difference between the ages on the 1841 Census where Thomas is 45, making his DOB 1796 and the date of Death shown as 1849 but with Thomas's age at 63 making his DOB 1786.

This could be explained by a 'Transcription Error'  is there anyway of checking as oppose to buying a certificate?

The 1841 census was the first one - they gave an age range of 5 years at the time
this is a quote

In the 1841 census, the age of persons over 15 was supposed to be rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5. For example, a person aged 19 would be listed as 15, a person aged 22 would be listed as age 20, and a person age 59 would be listed as 55

does that now make the ages fit ??

I didn't know that about the Census. I'm not sure that this has happened in this case though, as Thomas's age is shown as 45 (in 1841) where if he was born in 1786 it should be 55.

I believe his wife Elizabeth was born in Bicester:

Name:   Elizabeth Berrey
Gender:   Female
Baptism Date:   2 Dec 1798
Baptism Place:   Bicester,Oxford,England

(On the 1851 Census it shows Elizabeth being born in Bicester)

Which in 1841 makes her age 43 but it is shown as 35 (1841 Census). Just to confuse things even more.
