Mitchell, Airdrie
« on: Wednesday 22 September 21 11:45 BST (UK) »
Hi, my apologies if I have posted before, but this is a complete brick wall.

James Mitchell married Roseann Dowds/Douds/Dodds in Glasgow 1855, they had most of their children there, but one also called Roseann born in Airdrie, Bridewell is who I am interested in only because she was registered by her Aunt Ann Mitchell, she is the only link I have to siblings of James and Roseann.  I do not know is she is James’ sister or sister in law.  If anyone could break this down for me I would be so grateful.

I have all of the other details from when they moved to Scotland from Ireland and when and where they all died, but I would love to know who Ann Mitchell was.

Thanks in advance for reading
Kathy

Where was James at time of 1851 census & what age was he when he married?

There is a Mitchell family in Airdrie on 1851 census. It looks like parents, John, 64, & Ann,53, children, Margret, 22, James, 20, Ann, 18, William, 14.

What was James' MMN on his marriage and/or death certificate (if latter was in Scotland)?

Also, was her forename Ann, making Kloumann's suggestion a possibility, and was his fathe named John?

Finally, as it was an 1855 marriage, meaning it captured more info than later years, where and when was James' born?

Hello all

I first pick James up in 1855 when he married Roseann, James’ parents were Samuel Mitchell and Jane Elliott, interestingly none of the children were called Samuel, they were Jane, Roseann, James, Helen and Ann, Roseann snr’s parents were Willliam and Rose.  James was 24 when he married.  Jane was born in Fermanagh and Roseann, Derry.

Thanks

I note the family on 1861 census in Clyde, Lanarkshire

JAMES 30, ROSEANN 26, JANE 3, JAMES 1

I do not see a 3 year old Rose Ann anywhere in Scotland in 1861 so I assume she is Jane?

Was Samuel deceased when James married 1855?

What was James' address at time of marriage?
