How do I find this book in Ancestry?
« on: Sunday 26 September 21 06:16 BST (UK) »
I have found a reference to a book that may have info on my family.  It is called "The good old times in McLean County, Illinois".  It can up as a suggested record for my ancestor James Reyburn when I did a public member tree search on ancestry.  I don't have a US subscription but can access it through my local library but I can't find the book listed in their catalogue (which is hopeless) and I don't know how to get access to it.
Can anyone suggest some avenues I could try?
Thanks

Just google the title.
First there will be Amazon Books trying to sell it to you for $21.00

Then there will be Google books. It has a feature see inside, your ancestor starts on page 462. It appears you can download it.
James Gulion Reyburn was born April 15 1803 in Frankfort Kentucky. His fathers name was James Reyburn and his mother's name before her marriage was Mary Gulion. They were of Irish descent.

It continues from there to page 465 and gives an excellent description of his life and how he came to be in Illinois

Thank you both so much.  I found the article and although it is about the son of James Reyburn, it does say that his parents were Irish.  This means that all the folk who have appropriated my ancestor, the Scotsman, as their ancestor are incorrect.  Am so pleased I checked it out.

Thank you both again,
Kerrie
