John Spruhan (various spellings) what am I missing
« on: Monday 27 September 21 19:38 BST (UK) »
Good evening, John SpruHEN married Mary Sexton 25.7.1851 Liverpool. I believe they then appear on 1861 census ref RG9 2704 29 53 (surname on Anc* as SOPHRUEN

On this census are 5 children
William--reg as SPRUGHAM in 1852 with mmn Turner
Edward--(reg as EDMUND SPRUGHAN in 1853 with mmn Turner
Catherine reg as SPRUHAM in 1855 with mmn Turner
James reg as SPRUHEN in 1857 with mmn Sexton
Margaret reg as SPRUHAN in 1859 with mmn Sexton

1871 RG10 3800 28 49 (surname on Anc* as SPANTON)

On this 5 children

Edward 16
Catherine 14
Mary Ann 8 believe this to be Mary Ann SPRUHAN 1864 mmn SAXTON
James 3 believe this to be John James SPRUHAM 1868 mmn Turner
Margaret 1 believe this to be Margaret Ellen SPRUHAN mmn Turner.

1881 census ref RG!! 3644 58 53
4 children
Christiana 20
John J 13
Margaret E 11
Elizabeth 8 ??????????????????? no birth I can find

1891 RG12 2925 119 14
2 children

Margaret Ellen 19
Eliza Jane 17 ??????????? marries John Bentley and appears with him, children and her mother Mary Spruhan on 1901 census--is Eliza Jane Elizabeth on 1891 census.

But my biggest question in the mother's maiden names . Why SEXTON or TURNER.

If anyone can find any other children would love the info.

Thanks

John

heywood, this is my problem. Honora's birth registered 1860 with mmn Sexton, but baptism mmn Turner.

A bit more to the puzzle, I think.

1851 2194 /417/ 19
 Prescot

Bridget Sexton, 50 yrs b Ireland
Hanora 26 yrs
Mary 18 yrs
Catherine 12 yrs

1861 2704 /28/51
Liverpool (Toxteth Park) close to the Spruhens
John McLean 36 yrs
Amora McLean   35 yrs
John McLean 7 yrs
Bridget Turner 60 yrs mother in law

Marriage December 1851 Prescot
John McLane and Honora Saxton are on the same page

Birth of John McLean 1854 Prescot mmn Turner

It looks as though Bridget, mother might have been Sexton and/or Turner - maybe two marriages there?

In 1861 those families were living in Russell Street.

There is a marriage December 1865
Catherine Turner (Russell Street) parents Edward and Bridget Turner
And Thomas McMahon, Mann Street parents James and Elizabeth.

So you gave Edward and Bridget Sexton as parents and Edward and Bridget Turner.
I am as confused as you  :)
