Yes that is correct she never married as far as I know. She lived with her younger sister Aunt Nellie in Balham for a couple of years before her death which might have been in a nursing home.

There is a shipping manifest entry for her showing as arriving at Quebec on 9 Sept 1928 planning to stay in Montreal to work as a domestic. She gave her father Michael, 11 Brighton Street, Belfast as contact back in Ireland.

There is a 23 yr old Bridget arriving in the UK from Montreal in 1932. Her occupation is that of a waitress and she plans to reside in England (she gave a London contact address).

There are a number of other entries in the 1950s for a Bridget Mary working onboard ships as a laundress. No age or birth place details given.

That’s amazing information Monica.  it answers several questions for me. My grandad was in the Royal Irish Constabulary and in 1922 went to England with his family No1 I had not idea when he returned to Belfast but I knew he lived in Brighton St before moving to Broadway. But you have given a date which means they returned a lot earlier than I thought. This was because his wife Jane’s family lived there. The information on Aunt Bridie is amazing I never knew about Canada and yes she did work as a laundress on board the ships as recently my cousin in London sent me some old photos which her mum had of Bridie on board a ship in a white uniform. You have been very helpful Monica and solved several questions I really never had an answer to. Thank you . Gerry

Hi Monica. Still trying to get used to the new Familysearch format. Not been able to find any migration records on it. Do you have the same problem?

Yes  :'( Trying to stick at it to learn but frustratingly so!

Gerry, always a team effort here on RC as you can see with everyone's contributions  ;)

If it helps with who was where and when, Bridget gave this address when she returned to the UK in 1932: 60 Westdale Road, Plumstead.

Thank you Monica and the team on RC you have made my day. I am so delighted to have learnt so much about my Aunt Bridie who was the kindest person in the world and who I really knew nothing about her life all those years ago. Thank you everyone. Gerry
