Hi chrissiecruiser

The photo of your Aunt is beautiful. It was also the photos for me. It seemed to me that they were all beautiful and a little enigmatic, so wanted to know who they were and what they had to say if they were still alive.

For me......it was seeing a photo of my Great Aunt a year or so before she was killed in a car crash at Belair, Adelaide, South Australia, aged 19.

Thankyou Chiddicks and Karen 58,

Yes actually it was a wierd, wondrous feeling to see her, I do not have many pics of my olds but that was a doozie!!!
Karen, you are lucky to have pics!
I have been searching for ANY of my lines.
Luckily, one lot was prominent and I managed to get some via the Australian National Library and the South Australian Library.
Looking, looking.

Hi chrissiecruiser,

Sadly, I have few photo. My Grandparents had hundreds but they are all gone now.

May I ask if you found the photos online or did you visit the Australian National Library. I've search the Queensland State Library without luck, but they are currently in a process of digitizing their collection and making it available.

Looking looking.

Hi Karen,
The pic of Dora came to me through a distant cousin I met via Ancestry. She has done a huge lot of research, travelled over England and Australia meeting other cousins. She intends to publish eventually.
My "go to" is TROVE.....National Library of Australia.
I look up newspapers and publications for social events (usually with pics), marriages, births, deaths, funeral notices, sale of estates, obituaries...everything!

My mum died when I was 7yo, so I had very little on her.
Now I have early pics of her at a cricket match, helping at a red x event, she was a nurse. Her 1st marriage and what became of it, and lots more about her father who was a rotter, and her mother, an actress.
The addresses came from the SA Library, Biographical Index list of early citizens.
I used to travel to Adelaide every so often and spend the whole day at the library, as I am on a small farm in the SE of SA, 360k's away.
More now online.
Sorry this is so long.
Just got to keep plodding along.
My brick wall was smashed by doing that!
I couldn't find my family's immigration for12 years!
Finally through Trove an obscure newspaper had been transcribed and there they were!!! 8 of them!
The paper only survived for 6 years.

Hope you have some luck as I have!
Cheers,
Chris

Hi chrissiecruiser

We may not have census records here in Australia, but isn't Trove great. Although I haven't found as much on Trove for my family as you have.

It must have been difficult for you to lose your mum when you were so young. Wonderful that you found articles for her.

Thanks for the tip.

Cheers Karen
