Help needed to locate Birth cert James Lawrence McNAMARA
« on: Saturday 02 October 21 01:38 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am a "newbie" & am trying to obtain a birth cert for James & have found his Marriage & Death certs on which his birthplace is stated as being in a suburb of Victoria.  However, when I search on BMD Victoria, I can't find it!  M. cert in 1899 has his age as 26 & on his D. cert in 1909 his age is 37.  So born abt 1872/73 & have searched from 1860 - 1880 to be on safe side with no results that show the same parents as on his M. cert.  I have run out of ideas so can anyone please help me.
Thanks so much  :)

It doesn't necessarily help with finding his birth, however I see that he was living at Fewster St (I think this is correct?)

There is a death notice for a Roderick McNAMARA who died at Fewster St aged 72 in 1907

Death registration : 14010 / 1907 , parents Patrick and Bridget

Oh how kind of you and I actually do have that "Sad Case" notice already.  However, the Roderick bereavement notice just may be James's Father so I will certainly chase that up.  Thanks so much for your help as I just don't understand why BMD Victoria have no Birth record for James :)

I have to go out now, but there are numerous electoral roll, rate book and city directory entries for Roderick McNAMARA in the Brighton area of the right time period.

Here is the death of a brother.

Jno McNamara
Born abt 1865
Died 1894
At Melbourne,
Parents Rhody and Bridt HAIR
2818

The maiden surname of Bridget, James' mother is tricky on the marriage.
It looks like HEHEIR.  Which I guess could be pronounced HARE and written as HARE or HAIR.

That's just wonderful Sue and it all ties in with the Cert I have just downloaded from BDM.  At least now I have some more info that may help track down the Birth Certificate or other members of the family.  It took me a day of working out how to actually make a post on this site  ::)

Many thanks indeed

Syl  :)

Many thanks "wivenhoe" for so much information and I am so overwhelmed by the responses I have received.  It will keep me busy for quite some time as I was totally unaware of whether James had any brothers or sisters and now I am a lot wiser.

FYI, my Son-in-Law is a McNamara descendent & I am doing the research on behalf of his Father & he will be so thrilled as am I.

Cheers

Syl  :)
