Deciphering Query
« on: Saturday 02 October 21 12:16 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
Can anyone tell me what the names and places are that I've highlighted between the red markers, please?
One line starts 'I leave to John Armstrong of ??????????????????? son of Willam etc.
The next part I'm struggling with reads 'I leave to ??????? ???????? of the ????? daughter to William etc.
Many thanks,
Bob

Second line guesstimate..."spanish booty of the borks"

Maybe it means she is to be given something taken from a Spanish Barque.

John Armstrong of Port of Spain?

Skoosh.

That was my choice but as we don’t know the context I decided to wait. :)

Thanks everyone. I initially had it as:

John Armstrong of Yorks ? son of William Armstrong of Kirtletown.

Hannah Booly of the Borks (Berks?) daughter of William Armstrong of Kirtletown.

There was a family link to Berkshire, so wondered if it was Berks? However, why write
'of the Berks'? Beatty (various spellings) is a good guess 'Port of Spain' may be correct as the family had some who were merchants in the East and West Indies.

Cheers,
Bob

Problem solved!
Background research reveals that it reads:
'John Armstrong of Pockeskine', later followed by 'Hannah Beaty of the Becks', a farm west of Langholm.
Thanks for the input everyone. Great work GR2!
Cheers,
Bob
