Here's "Jerry" King, the undertaker. On the same page as the Hotel Keeper!

1870 United States Federal Census Oxford, Chester, Pennsylvania
Jeremiah King age 29 b Pennsylvania
Occupation:   Undertaker

This census record is 30 pages in total. Check each page to see if James is around, with possibly a mispelled last name. It happens....

Update: The 1870 census above was taken on July 11, 1870. They must've had a late start that year!
Anyway, it was taken a month before James' death. He must be somewhere nearby...

Keep an eye out for this occupation(s): "Works in woolen mill" and "Works in factory".

I did check every page of the 33 and didn't see James Watterson. Did find Geo. Werntz but that was hard to decipher. Saw Jeremiah King, undertaker. Will recheck the pages.

Well, if the dead man is your fellow, maybe he's still in Mount Vernon (Chester Co) in the 1870 census. He's not living with any of his adult children, is he?

He might be living with adult children as the news article said the body was to be delivered to friends and family in Mt. Vernon.

I checked the Lower Oxford Census which might include Mt. Vernon, though the post office was Collamer. Found James' widowed brother Samuel and James' brother George's daughter and grandson. But no James. Also found the fellow who hit James in the temple and who stood trial for murder but was acquitted. So has to be right area. But no James.

What were the names of his children?
