« on: Friday 08 October 21 00:10 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have have been down that many blind alleys that my brain is aching and now need some guidance please!  I have a McNAMARA birth cert with neatly written but undecipherable lane name.  Am attaching a copy so if anyone can help, I would so much appreciate it.

Thanks Syl  :-\

Have you tried the Sands & McDougall’s directories

Here's a link to 1905 edition (scroll down through these)

Thanks so much "majm" and I have tried searching these directories but either I am looking in the wrong directory or in the wrong section, I never have any success whatsoever.  I suspect that it is my own fault.  I went into 1905 Directory but just couldn't find it :-[  I probably need some lessons in searching so thanks for your prompt reply & I will try & be a bit more patient when scrolling through the records.

Cheers Syl  :)

Thanks Matthewj64, that was quick work & it didn't occur to me to search in Trove.  I am really such a novice & I seem to find things by sheer luck at times.  I think you are correct as I had thought that it might be Cummins and until now, have not found any refernce to it when I searched for "Old street names" in Melbourne suburbs so I was really confused.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Cheers Syl  :)

Hi JM

I went back into the Sands Directory and this time tried 1900.  I happened to click on something different which brought up an alphabetical list.  So I searched for McNamara and came across would you believe Roderick McNamara who was the Grandfather of John McNamara who I am dealing with ATM.  I think I just need a little more perseverance & am grateful for your advice.

Cheers Syl  :)
