Eliza Lake
« on: Friday 08 October 21 09:48 BST (UK) »
I’ve been searching for my ancestor Eliza lake on the 1861 census for awhile.

I know her fathers name was James lake (worked as a Carman) and she was born in Middlesex around 1851/52.

Would anyone be able to help me please?

Many thanks  :)

What more do you know about Eliza and James ? Have you found  either of them on any other census? Do you have a birth or baptism record for Eliza?

The only other Census I have found her on is the 1881 census with her husband (Walter johnson) and children.

I also have her marriage certificate to Walter in Paddington 1873 which lists James as the father.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any other information on Eliza or James.

I wonder if there might be an error on the marriage, and her father is really Thomas Lake. He is a witness at the marriage.
In 1871 Eliza is recorded as born Turnham Green. Thomas Lake (with wife Ann and family) is living in that area - Chiswick, Middlesex in numerous census records. There is a daughter Eliza with them in 1861.

ADDED in 1851, same family in Chiswick / Hammersmith - Eliza is 6 months old.

Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)

Hmmm. I did wonder this. It certainly would explain why I haven’t found any other information on her.

I’ll definitely search into this. Thank you for the help  :)

In 1871 census (Chiswick) Thomas Lake is a “carter”. This would be similar to a “carman” on Eliza’s marriage record in 1873.
