Adoption (England) - court transcript from 1940s. Is this possible?
« on: Friday 08 October 21 11:20 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Possibly rather a niche question, but I thought Id put a call out to the collective wisdom of Rootschat.

I have been asked for help by an elderly person currently overseas who needs a transcript of his 1947 adoption hearing in England (the specific court in SW England is known, but Ill keep it vague on here). This is required by an overseas passport authority.

Is this something that can be obtained? If so, does anyone know where I can point the gentleman for help?

Many thanks in advance.

Not something that I know anything about, but a web search brought up this from a local council in England
https://boltonchildcare.proceduresonline.com/chapters/p_access_birth_adopt_recs.html

Presumably the local council for the relevant area has a similar dept. I'd suggest you contact them and ask for advice on what's possible ? They may not hold the information required but should be able to point you in the right direction.

There won't be any transcript of the court hearing.

He may be able to get access to the adoption case papers, which can be a long and slow process, but I suspect what he actually needs is a translated copy of his adoption certificate.
