Letters
« on: Saturday 09 October 21 16:20 BST (UK) »
Trying to make sense of a couple of letters, and hoping you can help. Context - a boy at Saltley Reformatory in the 1880s was released on licence (a sort of probation) and committed a crime. I have photographed 2 letters from Warwick Prison to the Reformatory School about the lad, but am struggling with some words. The first one (which is page 2 of the letter) starts ...'know' and then becomes difficult.

The second one reads Sir, As to boy Cox, I note your decision to take him in to the school again, he will be released from here on the 16th instant. Please write and say what .... .... messenger will call for him on that day and he will be delivered upon production of a note from yourself. I cannot remove him and have no mind to detain[?] him beyond his imprisonment here [signature unreadable] but cannot make out what two words are intended where the dots are, as well as the word I have tentatively construed as 'detain'. Again, any ideas welcome.

Can't read it logically without scrolling back and forth but some words in the first part look like

"what"

"his"

"take"

Where are the dots you mention?

Is it possible to make it a little smaller so it can be read in one go or highlight the problem area/words?

Thanks for the efforts and engagement everybody, much appreciated, and apologies for making the task even harder with my oversized images. I think Zefiro has cracked them, and they make perfect sense.

The dots I referred to are in my post where I gave the wording I had so far, the dots standing in for the missing words. Again, apologies for making it more difficult than necessary.
