Thomas Rickard
« on: Sunday 10 October 21 07:21 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on the following:
One of my ancestors, Eliza Ann Pragnell b 1833 married Thomas Rickard in Mar 1855 Portsea.
In June 1856 she then married James Hawkes as Mrs Eliza Ann Hawkes. They had 6 children.
What happened to Thomas Rickard? There is a death recorded in St Columba in 1855 but that is for a
5 year old boy. I cannot find any further deaths. Interesting that here is such a short time between marriages. In fact I cannot find anything about him. Any assistance greatly appreciated

Have you seen the actual record of the marriage to Thomas Rickard?
Some transcriptions listed under marriages are actually only the dates of the Banns. It is possible they did not go through with the marriage.

EDITED
I see it is recorded on BMD.

Do you have a copy of this marriage to verify parents

On BMD the Elza/ Thomas wedding is Mar 155 Portsea 2b 431. I have applied for a copy of this marriage. The marriage to James Hawkes is on BMD Portsea Jun 1856 2b 604. They appear on the 1861 census with family. I have not applied for this marriage cert.
Thanks for your help. Dave
