GFT files - what can I do with them please?
« on: Sunday 10 October 21 12:27 BST (UK) »
Please excuse me as I'm very new to this and I've come across some old files on my dad's ancient pc that I would like to bring up to date.

He was using a program called GSP Family Tree which is still on his computer but is too old to load onto Windows 10

His trees and data are stored in something called GFT files.

Please does anyone know if it is possible to import them into a program that will work on Windows 10 or can I resave them on his computer into different files using GSP, or do I have to start again re-inputting everything?

I'm happy to buy a new program if it'll work with the GFTs and if anyone can recommend one that would be great

Thanks in advance

Search RootsChat for GFT - a few mentions previously.

Thanks Zaph, I'll take a look at all of those and fingers crossed.

Taking advantage of your better nature - My next dumb question is - assuming I somehow mange to convert the files what would you suggest using to open them?

Thanks again

Either GEDCOM  format (read about it, a standard), or whatever format is required for whatever software you decide to use ongoing.
