Coreect entry on Find a Grave
« on: Sunday 10 October 21 16:09 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can someone please correct an entry on Find a Grave.

I have come across an entry for Harry Atkinson on Find a Grave that even a researcher with a minimum of experience will know is incorrect & the only thing they have correct is the name of his wife.

They have him being born in 1885 in Goole & some of his siblings are his nieces & nephews & he is in the 1939 register.

Going by the one they have & his wives details I would say he was born about 1894/93 in the Halifax area.

So could someone with access to the site please give them a correction notice please

Regards

It's free-to-use, why not join yourself?
The memorial entries are under the "ownership" of individuals, so contact the memorial owner.

It is as Pauline says easy to join. Although you have to give your name you can register as user name 'anonymous' so that is all anyone will see against any entry you make

They had the wrong burial details for my father, i just registered and messaged them and it was altered to the correct information without any problems.

They had he was buried in a particular cemetery when infact he wasn't, his ashes were collected by myself and my mother.

It now states..

PLOT   Ashes collected by a Family Member.

I don't really want to give my details just to make a correction so I thought someone who is already a member might highlight the mistake the next time they are logged in.

I registered as anonymous in order to make a correction and add additional information.  No hassles.  I sent a message to the person who had entered the data and got a prompt and friendly reply.  The correction was made a few hours later and the additional information I gave was included.

Then their details are against the correction. :-\   It takes a couple of minutes to register and as I said you can be anonymous.

You obviously use the website so why not register and add some graves to it yourself to help others.   You don't have to put on photos or transcripts or other information

ADDED It is a bit like adding information on postems to freebmd, the more of us that do it the more free information is 'out there'.

You didn't post the FindaGrave link.

What is to be corrected and do you have proof/original source ?

I would not correct an entry without proof, indeed I've had corrections refused before as their "source" information was different.

I never do anything anonymously I always do everything openly so I can be approached.

I do not use the site it comes up as a link on Ancestry which is how I found the mistake.
