John Watterson, to New York, 1850, details?
« on: Monday 11 October 21 19:23 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I have just found a record of a John Watterson travelling to New York in 1850. I think his father could have been Leonard and wondered if the travel documents might name a relative/friend at each end of his trip. If it is the person that I am thinking of, he must have returned to Ireland and married Rachel Henry in 1859 in Co. Tyrone.
Thanks for any help
Peggy

There is nothing on the passenger list except the information you already have. The person immediately above John is James ROBINSON (21), also a weaver from County Tyrone and also going to Boston. Hard to know if they were together, does the name mean anything to you?

I have no info on James Robinson. However, if it is the John Watterson that I am thinking of, he had to return before his marriage to Rachel Henry in 1859. Can anyone find his return?
Thank you.

UK & Ireland return passenger lists did not start until 1878. The passenger lists date from 1878 to 1888 and 1890 to 1960. However, many of the pre-1890 lists were irregularly destroyed by the Board of Trade in 1900.  There are not many passenger lists in the database from these earlier years.
