Death of an Airman November 1916, William Apted

I am looking for details concerning the death of William Apted who died at Hawkhurst in November 1916.   Any help is much appreciated.

What exactly did you wish to know about William?

He is listed on the CWGC site.  His service no. was 30740, he was in the Royal Flying Corps and died on 25 November 1916 aged 38.  He is buried/cremated at Shorncliffe Military Cemetery.

His parents were George and Emma Charlotte Apted of 8 Danbrook Road, Streatham, London.

He is on the 1911 census with his parents George and Emma and four younger siblings.

Living at 8 Danbrook Road, Streatham S W, Wandsworth Borough, London.

His occupation at the time was carpenter.

Thanks, everyone for the additional information,

William Apted was serving with the School of Aerial Gunnery Hythe, at Palmarsh.
He died from wounds at Hawkhurst.
As far as I know, he did not overseas. So where/how was he wounded?

I notice from Sandra's reply above yours, that he was probably a mechanic going by the Mech part of his rank.

I wonder if something went wrong when he was repairing a plane, maybe there was an explosion of some sort. 

It may be worth getting his death certificate as that may tell you what he died of.

Cranbrook covers Hawkhurst.  I know his age appears to be slightly out according to other records, but it is only by one year.
