Charles Pike
« on: Wednesday 13 October 21 14:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find birth details of Charles Pike born around 1858, his father is John Pike (painter) Charles married Mary Jane Clarke in Southampton in1882, Mary was from Southampton, her address on certificate was 38 James Street, Charles gave his address as 50 Globe Street, I do not know if this in Southampton. One of the witnesses is a Pike so I hoped to find her but I cannot make out her first name it is ? Annie Pike, any help would be great. The family ended up in South Africa where their 5 children were born but Mary Jane is back in uk in 1901 a widow, youngest child just a year old so Charles must have died around 1900 but struggling to find death details.

I think the address for Charles is 50 Grove Street Southampton.

Look for a John PIKE with wife Caroline in Southampton on the various census.

Charles Pike, birth Reg'd Whitchurch, 1857, March Q MMN Cole.

In the 1861 census John & Caroline Pike of Grove Street have living within their household a Harriett Saint.

I believe that Charles birth is as below

PIKE, CHARLES  SAINT     SAINT
GRO Reference: 1856  M Quarter in SOUTHAMPTON  Volume 02C  Page 12

His sisters Ann was Nancy 1860 with mmn Saint & Caroline Ellen 1854 with mmn Saint.

However brother Harry (Henry)1857 has mmn as Crump as per the marriage record of John and Caroline Crump in 1853

Thank you all, so Caroline was originally a Saint, then became a Crump, and finally a Pike, complicated, but much more interesting.

Caroline was born in 1820 but not baptised until 1837, her brother Charles born 1823 also baptised 1837 in East Coker, Somerset.
