Sent emails but not from me.
« on: Wednesday 13 October 21 23:27 BST (UK) »

Help please.

This evening, clicking on the Sent button, I find I have hundreds of sent emails to people I don't know
all saying the same thing about a parcel being sent to them, obviously I haven't sent these, do I just delete them and do I need to change my password or anything else?

Many thanks

Sounds like your email account has been hacked. You need to change your password to stop it sending those emails.

You’re welcome. I would also suggest running a virus scan on your computer just in case there’s anything lurking that may cause a further problem.

Hi

Not sure how I do a virus scan, other than run Nortons, but will sort it tomorrow.

Thanks again
Carol

I use Avast Free Antivirus on my desktop PC, which seems OK. If using a tablet computer I’m not too sure. Most viruses target Windows OS so it shouldn’t be as likely to have a virus/malware on a tablet. Don’t worry in that case.

If you have Norton, do a full scan rather than a quick one.

Also, do you have any personal details in your email account section as these might have been accessed.

To Parmenion and Gadget

Thank you both for your help here.  I have changed my password and about to do a full Norton scan.

I do not do on-line banking or the likes, so should be safe.

Many thanks,
Carol

Check also that the attackers have not changed the "in emergency, send a password reset email to" address. That should be in your account settings somewhere.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
