Need Confirmation of Irish Birth for Ray Leonard Dougherty DOB, 1898 or 1899

I’m trying to find the birth or baptismal record of my maternal grandfather:

Ray Leonard Dougherty (son of Garvin Dougherty & Gertrude Hines)
DOB 1898 or 1899 (Immigrated to New York when he was 4)
Place of Birth: County Cork, Ireland

Died in Clarinda, Iowa and was buried in a cemetery in New Market, Iowa.
On my mom’s birth certificate, it says that he was born in Clarinda, Iowa in 1902 BUT…my mother insists that he was born in Ireland and immigrated with his parents. On a gravestone in the Memory Cemetery in New Market, Iowa, there is a Dougherty family gravestone and his is listed as “Son, Ray L 1899-1953” As his birthdates don’t line up on my mother’s birth certificate and on his gravestone, I need to see if his birth was in Ireland or in Iowa. I maybe need to find the marriage certificate of my grandparents Ray Leonard Dougherty and Vera Jeannette Squires (DOB: August 23, 1912) and see the birthdate of my grandfather to compare as well.

Any help with his birth certificate or baptismal record would be helpful. The official registry in Ireland searched and could not find it. But encouraged a search for a baptismal record as a lot of births were not recorded at that time.

wow. thank you. interesting as my family mother's story was certain but he died when she was 2 and she has very little information about him.

I presume that you can see those images, if not you just need to register on the website it is free.  I can also see the 1940 census for Ray on there and a military record.
