Birth registration anomaly
« on: Thursday 14 October 21 19:53 BST (UK) »
According to freebmd Annie E Dabb birth registration 1932 Scarborough shows mmn Scruton. The GRO index does not show a mmn. Any idea for the difference?

Additional family info - Henry/Harry Dabb married Mary Elizabeth Scruton 1914 Scarborough and had sons Henry(1918) and Stanley(1920).Henry sr not found in 1939 and death unknown.

For some reason there's a chunk of the GRO indexes where you can't use them to find an unknown mother's maiden name, so FreeBMD continues to be invaluable for this.

In this case, if you search without the mother's maiden name you get the required entry, with no mmn showing. However, if you include the mmn (Scruton) in your search terms the same entry appears, but this time with the mmn. So the GRO clearly have the information, but in cases like this they don't show it unless you already know it.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

GRO has removed mothers maiden surname from its online birth registrations index from 1922, presumably as these people are under 100 years old
