Sarah Watterson, husband William Hart Taggart
« on: Saturday 16 October 21 23:39 BST (UK) »
Sarah Watterson was born about 1856 in Philadelphia to Alexander Watterson, wife Mary surname unknown. Sarah married William Hart Taggart Nov 16,1874 in the Rectory, Church of the Messiah, Protestant Episcopal Church, Philadelphia.
Sarah supposedly died between 1881 and 1900 but I  don't find her in 1880 to see if she had children.
William died Oct 10,1920 in Philadelphia. He was born Jan 1,1849 in Philadelphia, unverified but parents as per marriage record were John and Mary. Harrison Taggart was the informant at death which I believe was his brother. There are a couple strange things about this family. In 1880, I think I have found William with his family, recorded as single, Mother is Mary mn Symington, and there is a brother Harrison. Then in 1881, a William H. tries to join the Marine Corps and he is immediately discharged as he joined fraudulently, being a married man. I guess you had to be single. At any rate, if this is the correct person, what became of Sarah.
William's sister Margaret Taggart married a Kennedy before 1880.
thanks for any help

Thank you, Sandra but I think that one is nee Taggart. I  did have a look at it. She is born Ireland instead of Philadelphia.

A little bit of a mish-mash perhaps. You can't always believe the documents are correct with ages and places of birth.

I did put the death certificate above and it says single - so perhaps never married  :-\

Peggy

William (single) is with his mother at 1228 East York Street in 1880 (same address as they lived at in 1870)

Why do you presume Sarah died between 1881 - 1900 ?  Could she have died between 1874 and 1880 ?

1870

1900 William is described as widowed.

1910 William is described as widowed.

Well, I  suppose Sarah could have died 1874-1880 except that if William H. was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1881 because he was married, Sarah must have been alive (if it is the correct William H.).
That doesn't seem to be the correct William in 1900, widower, as siblings are different and his  occupation is iron moulder, instead of Boiler maker like all the other censuses.
William's brother Thomas Henry died Sept 20,1913. Perhaps his obit would add information. William's mother Mary Taggart died Sept 1, 1905.
Thanks Sandra.

Sarah's marriage to William H. Taggart in 1874. I have tried to remove this 6 times as it is too large and is not cropped but it  still appears.
