7 Larch Rd, Govan or Dumbreck, Glasgow
« on: Tuesday 19 October 21 12:47 BST (UK) »
Photo found in my Grandfathers house after he died - unsigned, but 7 Larch Road written on the side.  Believe it may have been dated around 1915-1930.  How to find out who lived there at that time?  My newfound family all desperate to know who the missing lady is  ???

Electoral registers for those areas.

Is it a photo of a lady on her own?  How old does she look.

1913-15 Dumbrek is a Peter Carse shipwright.  Also a Walter Carse shipwright and a Peter Carse junior Joiner.

Thanks for the information... It is a lady on her own, I would say possibly in her 20s.  As I said, can't be sure of the date, and the names you mention don't ring any bells, so possibly a bit later.  I'll try to find out.

There is a Will and Estate notice in a 1941 newspaper for that address for a Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Carse, so it would appear to be in the Carse family for the timeline you are thinking of.

Welcome to RootsChat, AnniePur  :)

The 1915 Valuation Rolls for 7 Larch Road shows Peter Carse as Proprietor Occupier

1925 VRs also give Peter Carse as Proprietor Occupier of House & Garage at that address.

As bbart shows, family still there up to the 1940 VRs.

You can view the image of the Valuation Rolls online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

I think the property shows on Street View on google.

This is the Carse family in 1901:

Peter Carse 38 Ship Carpenter b. Lanark
Elizabeth Smith Carse 42 Wife
Peter Carse Jr. 12
Walter Carse 8
Sarah Carse 6
Annie Burns 21 Servant

Address: 7 Kensington Pl., Govan

Of the three Peters (father, son and grandson) we have these deaths:

Peter Snr father died 1908, aged 81
Peter John son died in 1944, aged 82
Peter grandson died in 1940, aged 51.

Daughter Sarah Boag Carse (married name Gunn, late marriage in 1947) died at 7 Larch Road in 1969.

Elizabeth from the 1901 census was Peter's 2nd wife. First wife, Elizabeth Hook, marriage in 1888 in Kinning Park (died in 1898). Second marriage to Elizabeth Smith in 1900 at Symington.

Earlier censuses show Peter's father was also called Peter. He is showing on the census as a Ship Carpenter employing 25 Men, so a substantial business.

Thank you so much for all the information - I really appreciate it from all and will share with my family to see if they recognise any of the names.  :)
