Burial Records Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire 1884 to 1911
« on: Tuesday 19 October 21 14:33 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me of the whereabouts of two relatives of mine?
They are man and wife and lived all of their married lives in Melton Mowbray.

Alban Ainge born in 1826 in Belton in Rutland and died in 1911 in Melton Mowbray.
Jane Ainge ( nee Collett ) Born in 1828 in Wymondham, Leicestershire and died in 1884 in Melton Mowbray.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I can't readily see burials for Jane and Alban, but I did notice that Alban re-married in 1886 following Jane's death in 1884.  1911 census shows an address of 14 Pall Mall, Melton Mowbray.  1881 census shows an address of 10 Rutland Terrace.

Free Reg has the burial of Alban Ainge, age 64, on 22 Jan 1819, at St Mary, Melton Mowbray.
Probably not your man.

Many thanks for all of the replies.

Jomot - I have the same information about Jane , but cannot trace the actual burial place and plot.
The Wesleyan Methodist Church has no actual grave yard and was demolished many years ago.I am trying to find someone in he church who could search the church records but so far not luck.

Brentnor Boy - This is an earlier relative and not the one I am looking for so you are spot on.The name Alabna Ainge is very common in my family.

Bumble - Yes I have all of this information , but I am looking for where they are actually buried if possible.

I am hoping that someone can give me a steer for finding the burial locations for them both.

Regards

Very unhelpfully my CD for non-conformist baptisms & burials also has Jane's burial, but no further details.

However, the reference given is DE 3058/78, and the Leicestershire records office has various entries under DE3058, including the following: Melton Mowbray Wesleyan Chapel burial ground, 1881-1940
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

Now that is interesting Jomot, as it mentions an actual burial ground for the Wesleyan church!

This is new to me and the dates are overlapping with the King street ( 1847 - 1890) and Thorpe road cemeteries ( 1890 to present) active lives.

You have found a possible route to success here!

The record details can be traced as you suggest in the Leicestershire Records Office.

I have contacts there and will follow this up and feedback my findings!

Many thanks Jomot I really appreciate it.

Old maps show a Methodist burial ground at the rear of the chapel at the junction of Sage Cross Street and Timber Hill.

Many thanks for that David.
I was not aware that this burial ground even existed!

Given that the map states its existence in 1885 and one of my ancestors dies in 1884, there may be a chance of finding more.

If this burial ground was still in use after 1911, then I may find the other ancestor too!
