When did Samuel PAGE arrive in Queensland?
« on: Wednesday 20 October 21 03:26 BST (UK) »
Samuel Page was born in Coventry, Warwickshire abt. 1827.  He emigrated to Queensland sometime
after his 1861 marriage to Emma Crofts.  He was still in Coventry for the 1861 census.  He died in
Warwick, Queensland in 1865 so that narrows his arrival to those few years.  Have had no success so
far in locating his immigration record, any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,
Jen.

Hi there,

Do you have the d.c. for him ?  Does it give a response to the question "How Long in the Colony/ies?"  Is this his death indexed at Qld bdm?   3 September 1865,  #1865/C/879.  Mother as Hannah MAYCOCK and father as William PAGE?  Assuming his widow provided that info, it would likely be reliable.

This newspaper cutting seems to have the couple as Wardsman and Matron at Warwick Hospital. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/1269120 Brisbane Courier 4 March 1865.  Would Qld Archives have employment history for either or both? https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/arts/heritage/archives/contacts

Looks like Emma re-married 6 May 1866, John Gale See Qld BDM online.   Her death cert should give response to that same question re How Long in the Colony.

Hello JM,  thankyou for your interest :D  Samuel Page was a brother of my 2xgr.grandfather
William Page.  I don't have his d.c. but the Qld. BDM record is the correct one.  Here it becomes
a little complicated.  The mother of both men was Hannah Page who later married William Maycock in 1830.
William Page born 1821 in Coventry states on his marriage record that his father was William Maycock.  The father of Samuel Page is uncertain, possibly also William Maycock.  The Qld. BDM
records the father of both men as William Page possibly because both used the surname of Page
and not Maycock both being born prior to the 1830 marriage.   Possibly both informants on the d.c. have the father's surname incorrect.

Thankyou for the Trove reference, I missed that :(

Have looked at Qld. archives for an immigration record without result.  Perhaps it was not an
assisted immigration.  He could have been sponsored by his brother.  QSA has advised me on a
previous occasion that the immigration records they hold are predominantly assisted immigration
records.

Jen.

Sometimes a headstone will hold information such as "a colonist of (a number) years"

But having looked at the Warwick Cemetery details for Emma and John GALE, I am sorry to say, not the case this time. :(
Just ages, dates and relationship etc.

There is not a recorded MI for Samuel PAGE.
