Records for Home Guard Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 20 October 21 13:25 BST (UK) »
I believe my grandfather, Reginald Reid, may have been in the Home Guard, but I've never been really sure. If he was with them, I've narrowed down the most probable unit to the 87th (Liverpool) battalion Lancashire. As the were the closest unit to where he lived.

Try as I might, can't see any on line record & was wondering if anyone knew where to look,.....or even better, if some one can find him

Regards

Stewart

Also, Ancestry recently added a WWII Lancashire Home Guards collection. There are several "R Reids" and an "RS Reid" but they enlisted with the East Lancashire TA and AF Association. Another enlisted with the 48th Battalion (Ardwick).

Thanks Hillhurst

I must admit that i'm struggling to find those particular records, but if they are East Lancashire I suspect my not be my Grandfather.

I must admit that i'm struggling to find those particular records,

You mean struggling to find the 4 records on Ancestry UK? Just access the WWII Lancashire Home Guards collection, then search for "R Reid" and "RS Reid". There are images. But as you say, probably not your grandfather.

Also, sometimes Home Guards personnel are mentioned in newspaper reports. So keep an eye out for those.

See also this link, but bear in mind that details on existing Home Guard records is very sparse.

Thanks again Hillhurst.

I did find the 4 records you referred to, i must have been half asleep the first time i tried  :-[

I think I've seen the gov.uk site before but reckon i was put of by the admin fee, especially as there looks to be little chance of success.
