Date of photo by ladies dress ROBERTS Four-Crosses Llandysilio
« on: Wednesday 27 October 21 15:49 BST (UK) »
Hi,
An estimate of the date of this photo would be appreciated. Photo from a box at Penybont, Oswestry, don't have a view of the back but if there was anything of interest I think I would have scanned it at the same time.  Guess from the lady's features she may be a Roberts, possibly Mary Eliza, from Four-Crosses/Llandysilio. Any suggestions as to where would be a bonus. Family lived at Little Rhysnant.
Thanks, Jon

It looks as if there is a large house/hall at the end of the drive. Pentre Helyn Hall, to the west of Llandysilio looks a possible:

If it is the bridge over the canal at the beginning of the drive, it could be the canal identifier. It would be the Montgomeryshire canal which joins the Shropshire(Ellesmere) canal near Oswestry, if I remember correctly.

Add - Rhysnant farm is just the the SE of the Hall

Hi, I agree there looks like a hall or similar in the distance. I suspect the lady in question may be the lady below (born 1865) who grew up at - either Canal House or Croft Cottage, Canal Road, Llandysilio/Four Crosses - as both photos came from the house the lady below lived in when married in 1889. Her parents and sister moved to Little Rhysnant by 1871 so I automatically thought it may be the now demolished Rhysnant Hall https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/library/2972.pdfon the Wingfield Estate. I see both Pentre-Heylin and Rhysnant are mentioned in this linked report, See "PRN 72649" to "PRN 80399", the former mentioning "parkland adjacent to Pentre-Heylin Hall".

I've had a good look on the original scan, enhancing, inverting etc and can't see anything.

There's definitely some letters on the snip that I put up.

Could you do a scan of that area but with a higher resolution.. You original is very pixellated.

I can't get to the photo now, I'll have to search to see if I still have it. I've cropped the original scan with no enhancements to get below the 500 Kb limit whilst converting the scanned .bmp format to .png and put that below. Hope its of use.
