A line in a 1900 Scottish probate listing
« on: Wednesday 27 October 21 23:58 BST (UK) »
This is amongst items such as savings in the National Savings Bank of Paisley, and a funeral payout from the Equitable Friendly Society.

I have
'Sum contained in Son's ? deceased(?) son Andrew Cochran pawn
broker Glasgow(?) dated 11th Jany 1898               43 . . '

I'd be grateful if somebody could check this, and shed any light on what it might mean.
It seems accrue interest (on the next line), so it doesn't sound as if it's something in hock at the pawn broker's that needs rescuing.
Could you use pawn brokers as a form of savings bank?
I've not come across an Andrew Cochran who was actually a pawn broker in Glasgow.

Thanks very  much

I.O.Us.

Gosh, I never thought of that HD.
Thanks very much.

Thank you for the link orkrad.
And I had thought all Michael's children had stayed in Paisley. It just shows you.

So his son Andrew, the pawn broker, owed his father Michael this 43 pounds?
I guess it would be paid out of his estate.
I shall have to follow up his death.

Thanks again
