Why America American army draft record for 1917/18
« on: Thursday 28 October 21 14:07 BST (UK) »
Checking records for my paternal great grandfather (1875-1948) and what should I find but a copy of an American army draft record for 1917/18.

What on earth was my Yorkshire born great grandfather doing in the US at that time moreover, why at the age of 44 is he being drafted into their army?

His details are spot on as are those for his wife and my great grandmother - even down to their first and second names being correct which is surely too much of a coincidence... or is it.

Cheers guys.

Presumably this is a draft registration card rather than a US army record per se? If so it should tell you where he was working at the time.

See https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1968530 for an explanation of the draft registration requirements

Hard to help more without knowing his name.

It doesn't mean he was drafted, just that he had to register because he was less than 45 years old.
