On the last day of October aforesaid
On which day Master William Inians, priest, Master of Arts, surrogate etc., because no-one is named as executor in the nuncupative will of Walter Backshell, lately of Hen(d)field, deceased, granted administration of the goods etc. of the said deceased, according to the tenor and effect of the will of the same deceased, to Joan/Jane Backshell, his relict, to well and faithfully administer etc.; sworn on the Holy etc. by power of commission; Matthew Backshell of Barkham (= Barcombe?), husbandman, and Richard Finch of the parish of St John sub Castro in Lewes were bound in £200. The submitted inventory amounts to the sum of £95 16s.
