Navy Deserter? 1920
« on: Friday 29 October 21 20:19 BST (UK) »
Researching my great uncle Winfield Crawshaw who was killed on the same day as Arthur Couldwell, 3 May 1917.  A relative of Arthurs has told me that he had a brother, Alfred, who "deserted" and changed his name and went to live elsewhere (Leeds).
This intrigued me so I had a look.  Albert Couldwell SS8220 joined the Navy 15 May 1918.  He served on several ships.  The entry for the ship "Antrim" says he served from 3 March 1920 until 17 May 1920 and I am sure the next word is "Run" ... unless I am seeing what I want to see?  I know the ship was re-commissioned in March 1920.
I can't find Albert on Ancestry's list of deserters.
I've found Albert in Leeds on the 1939 Register, still with the same name.

Can anyone confirm that this record, in the photo, says "Run"?

Looks like "Run" to me, entered on the record twice.
