William Powell born abt 1700 ,Clerkenwell,Middlesex

Can any one give me more information about my 6th great grandfather William Powell.
All I know he was born abt 1700 in Clerkenwell,Middlesex,he married Margaret Thomkins (1702) in 1718,That’s all I know and would appreciate any more information ,Powell is a Welsh name and wondered how he ended up in London

It seems there are a few possible christenings for Middlesex (including a William PYEWELL in 1695, Clerkenwell). Picking yours, if indeed any are, may prove complicated.

Perhaps the most obvious way for someone from Wales to move to London would be via sea- if one of your POWELL ancestors, William or otherwise, was a mariner he may have simply taken a coastal trip and settled there.

Also could not find a bpt for a William Powell abt 1700 Clerkenwell, Middlesex.

Looking at submitted family trees, the birth in Clerkenwell may be an assumption.

There is a marriage of a William Powell to Margaret Thomkis not Thomkins 17th April 1718 Holy Trinity Clapham image on Ancestry.

Also a Bpt of a William Powell son of a William Powell & Margaret 19th December 1822 St. James, Clerkenwell image on Ancestry.
