Wellington Archives look up please

It's been a while since I have asked for a look up. Do we still have a person who visits the Wellington Archives. If so, Could you please look up the following for me . War Graves Alfred William DOEL Archives ref 1a Series W1834 NO: F/L 39907. War Grave Owen Kenyon JONES Archives ref 1a Series W1834 F?O 40921. Owen Kendrick WHYMAN Archives ref 1a Series W1834 F/S 413294 - Records are from NZSG V5

Hi lil,

Welcome back.

Spades still visits Archives, when time permits.  I suspect the information you have given is information taken from index cards and probably there will be no further information, just reading by the record source.  In saying that I could be wrong.

I was just wondering if you have looked for the airmen on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website?

Thank you for your reply. I have indeed seen Commonwealth War graves Commission site. I have researched in depth regarding these 3 airman and their crew mates . My last bit of research was to check NZSG and follow up on whyat I have found there.

Hi Lil,

I'm going to need archivist assistance with your enquiry as even using Advanced Search I can't find any relevant records for any of those individuals. The NZSG references you provided are often incomplete and quite dated to boot.

At this point I won't be able to get in to Archives for the next two weeks. I'll be in touch.

Hi Lil,

Well, the senior archivist I spoke to is also puzzled.

He found a series of files under the Accession number W1834 relating to international and national locations of War Graves but none appear obviously related.

I have taken a stab in the dark and ordered the one that relates to War Graves in Holland (see CWGC entry for WHYMAN) and will sight it next week.

In the meantime, have you read the Archives NZ Research Aid for WWII, which mentions war graves.

The archivist made the point that the CWGC website is likely to provide any information you seek, but we'll see that I discover in the file I've ordered.
