Rev. wilfred lawrence palk float. (1885 - 1983)
« on: Tuesday 09 November 21 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Whilst searching for the background story of this elusive Cleric I came across another Cleric of the same name, having obtained the same Degrees, at the same college but having a birth date of 1925 and a death date of 1950, buried at High Wycombe. Wilfred the elder was recorded on numerous trans-Atlanic crossings as being single. He is recorded as marrying Nancy T. Taylor, at Brighton in 1962 when he was 77 years old. Despite hours of searching through records I find no mention of Nancy (other than the wedding) neither can I find the mother of Wilfred junior. Both Wilfreds were buried at High Wycombe and I have Wilfred Snr's mother, Sarah Maria Float (1862-1944) also being buried there. With a name like that, what are the chances of having two that, not only share the name but certain geographical details as well. Wilfred Senior is in the Family book of records as being the oldest person to marry but something's not quite right ... can anyone help?

Not sure about the younger one BUT if you search FreeBMD - all categories 1880 - 1983 then the only results for Wilfred Float are his birth in 1885, marriage in 1962 and death in 1983.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The marriage certificate should help with her details, father's name, status etc.

I have that info and I also have photos signed by him. He must have had something going on in the United States ... I have records of him making at least six ocean liner trips, one where he stays for over two months. I also have a photo of a church wall plaque, (All Saints, High Wycombe), giving junior's birth and death.

Could junior have been born abroad, is he on the 1939 register?

The 1925 / 1950 one is on Find A Grave, but if you look at the image these are the years the elder one was vicar at High Wycombe, so it appears the younger one didn't exist.

Having just looked at that memorial I think it means he was Vicar of the Parish 1925 - 1950

ADDED
It reads

In sacred memory
of
Wilfred Laurence Palk
Float
MA
Vicar of this Parish
1925 - 1950
