His record also shows that he spent a year and 5 months in the Ionian islands. Per newspaper reports the 1st battalion of 14th Regiment returned to UK from Corfu in March 1860.

1st battalion travelled to the Ionian Islands from Malta 1858. It was in Malta 1854-Jan. 1855 when it left for the Crimean War, returning to the Malta garrison 1856. 
Some marriages in Malta were to Irish-born women.
