There is a possible 1939 entry for an Alexander Shiel. He looks to be living away from home.

Do you have a birth date for August that would let you check this Alexander's against?

Will August Charles was born on 12/9/1902 as did Alexander Shiel in the '39 Register in Carlisle and August Charles died in Silloth Cumbria in 1972,. The problem may well be solved.

Indeed (well done Jon for finding those marriage entries for 1932/3).

Now, over to you to try to figure out why two marriage entries for the same couple....likely you will need sight of the documents for this.

 ;D

Maybe try this?

It might be worth posting on the Durham board to ask if a RootsChatter in South Shields can look up the 1932 marriage.  The record will be at the local studies there.

Solving one question continues to bring on more. Having established Augustus (Alexander) Shiel (Thiel) was living in Cumbria in 1939 as, what appears to be a lodger, then where was his wife? They seem to have been still together as they were having children in 1944.

I think she may still be in South Shields with children  Try looking for son James H with no surname b 1937  Sorry that only works on F M P  :-\   No surname is listed for him on Anc
