Deciphering Irish Place Name Longford, Ireland
« on: Thursday 11 November 21 06:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'd love some help figuring out what this says! It's a birthplace from the 1871 census - I can tell the first two words say Longford, Ireland, but I'm not sure about the third! Any help would be appreciated :)

What is the surname?

Could be Tober (which means 'well').

Providing the name of the person in that census reference - and any wider contextual information -  might offer up readers an alternative approach to guessing the 1871 handwriting.

A misspelling of Tober does seem to be the most likely option! His name on the census is John Hall and he's living in Ramsey, Huntingdonshire :)

Some RC Halls baptised in Granard RC parish late 1700s. Don't see a John, but father's name John.
Protestant Halls in Templemichael and Moydow parishes.
