Sarah Channer 1750
« on: Saturday 13 November 21 17:07 GMT (UK) »
hi
i am trying to look at sarah channer 1750  ivinghoe bucks daughter of mathew channer and mary ware

i trying to work out if either or both of these records belong to her

sarah 1 channer marriage to henry horn  ivinghoe 24 dec 1776
witnesses Eliz channer and William Channer
and Robert Clarke.

i have found sarah 2 channer marriage to john bates 11 jan 1793  chenies
i think witnesses are george dodd , Deborah Dodd, and E. Dodd.
and the entry says both people getting married have been married before

why is her birth name was channer , why not use married name

sarah 1
her half sister ann  married a  george dodd , he has a sister Deborah Dodd, and elizabeth
th dodd family seem to have a paper mill

have found a will for sarah horn  wid of henry horn died  jan 1822 in elesborough bucks
with 4 children listed born between 1778-1783

sarah 2
married john bates my sticking
i am wondering if this sarah channer is sarah hill married to george channer  brother of sarah
thinking  probably not as they are in london, (and  marry until 1786)
two children who seemed to stay in london
so could be ok for marriage 1792 i have a record implying george  was still alive in 1793.
could not identify any other close channer widows called sarah

sarah bates listed as sister in  her sister  elizabeth channer will   1829, along with james channer and george dodd

so i asume she is still alive  but not found any other record

on a tree prepared 1940s given to my gt grandfather,  sarah is married to both husbands.

most of this tree is from  military records and a  family bible
i have with record centre visits and online records agreed with 90%
of there findings, including the missing  link to my part of the family
they had not seen ( or did not acknowledge )  isaac channer and mary fields children as they never married so children not accepted . i found the link in isaac channers will where he listed his children .
but they were not at the time.

just wondering if there are any records i have missed ,  or mis- interepted
i know it is old records  and i have not been able to follow links down from either record

thank you
andrea

Hi.

 With regard to Sarah1.

There is a will on Ancestry for Henry Horn of Ringshall that mentions his wife Sarah Horn and is dated
 As proved August 1813.

A Henry Horn is listed in the tax exemption records as living in Edlesborough through the 1790s.

Yes text is really hard. I can see " daughter Ann Griffin widow" if that helps.

Will of Mathew Channer written 1787 probate 1793. He is a Grocer and Tallow Chandler.
Sons William Channer and James Channer, daughters Sarah Channer and Elizabeth Channer. Daughter Ann Dodd and daughter Margaret Row?
Sarah and Elizabeth are not married as her refers to them as Sarah Channer and Elizabeth Channer.

Sarah marries John Bates a widower. 11 January 1793  (The Genealogist) marriages at Chenies transcription says they married by license John Bates wid. of Ivinghoe and Sarah Channer.
Nothing says she is widow, indication she is a spinster.

Will of William Channer 1797. Grocer, wife Mary, brother James, George and William Channer sons of his brother James Channer and his sister Elizabeth Channer. Brother in Law George Dodd. Looks like Sophia Ann Channer and Hannah Rebecca Arthur no relationship given.

Will of Elizabeth Channer spinster written 1806 probated 3 September 1829. sister Sarah Bates wife of John Bates, brother James Channer, George Dodd. (her brother William having died 1797).
Administration by George Dodd the nephew and sole surviving executor.
So when it was written 1806 Sarah Bates was still alive, her brother James Channer the other exec. has died by 1829, George Dodd (paper maker) must be the son of George Dodd who married Ann. Difficult to say if her sister was still alive 1829.
----------------------------------
Sarah Channer who marries Henry Horn has to be from another family.

Henry Horn 1813 of Ringshall is a butcher - wife Sarah, son Henry and daughter Ann Griffin widow. (his other children must have been given a settlement upon marriage or reaching 21)

Sarah Horn 1822 of Ringshall, daughter Clarey Gray wife of Benjamin (they married 1807), sons Charles, William and George Horn.

Possible marriages:
Mathew Channer wid married Mary Ware both of Ivinghoe 17 March 1747 by license at Cheddington

William Channer to Mary Harris 28 February 1793 by license both of Ivinghoe

James Channer of Ivinghoe to Frances Dodd 8 November 1773 by license at Chenies.

A marriage for Charles son of Henry and Sarah..

Ivinghoe 26th July 1802 to Ann London.
They have a son Channer Horn in 1816.
He appears in the 1841 census as an ag lab living at Southcott which is a small area of Linslade in Bucks wife is Susannah nee Warren.

In 1849 a Channer Horn was imprisoned for 1 day due to larceny.
I cannot see a death for him.
Wife is a widow in 1851.

hi thank you
mathew and mary ware is on my tree
so is son
william marriage to mary harris
and
james to francis dodd they are in london

but this is 1 of 2 marriages that link the channer and dodd  famiy
hence my thought that the marriage of sarah and henry henry horn being part of mathew channer
1713-1792 and his father mathew who was buried 1750

but margaret  channer refers to sister sarah bates in her will

but will of sarah horn implies she is not the person who married john bates

thank you for info on channer horn i have all of that on my channer  tree
