Slattery - Dungarvan
« on: Tuesday 16 November 21 10:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Wondering if someone can break down a brick wall for me.

My GGGreat Grandmother Mary Slattery b: 1828 arrived in Sydney, Australia on the ship Portland in March 1841 aged 13 years. Mary arrived with her brother Michael b: 1816, sister Ellen b: 1821, sister Honorah b:1823 and sister Catherine b: 1830.

Their parents were James & Julia Slattery, James having died before their voyage, stated on their shipping records that Mother Julia Slattery nee O'Malley is a widow living in Tullabracky, Limerick, Ireland.

Julia Slattery was living in Dungarvan, Waterford, Ireland in 1845 as we have family documentation for that and she passed away in 1866 in Ireland.

In 1845 Mary Slattery married Thomas Hayes in Sydney, Australia, living happily ever after... I have all the Australian information, but I cannot find any Irish records to prove they existed. I have nothing..

are you certain about the county of origin - this is posted under Co. Waterford ?

I see a likely group of 'Slatterie' sisters on the March 1841 sailing of the Portland as follows :

Hannah age 20, Ellen age 20, Mary age 16, Catherine age 16, first two kitchen maids, the other two nurse maids, all RC, native place Limerick

Males are listed separately in the Portland records.
