Susannah Barrett
« on: Wednesday 17 November 21 23:57 GMT (UK) »
I’m hoping someone could help me find who Susannah Barrett’s parents were. Most of my family research is Scottish and I’m stumped here where I feel I should be able to locate further back.

I know she was born in Grafton, Northamptonshire around 1800.

She married Samuel Shrives in 1822 also in Grafton, Northamptonshire.

She died in Devon in 1864.

From what I can see she had 9 children in total.
John (1823 - 1899)
Ann (1823 - 1898)
Gabriel (1826 -
Charlotte (1829 -
Priscilla (1831 - 1901)
Hannah (1834 - 1912)
Anna Maria (1837 -
Ellen (1839 - 1914)
Henry (1845 - 1914)

They must’ve moved to Devon between 1837 and 1839 as Anna Maria was born in Northamptonshire and Ellen, Devon.

Looks like there are two Grafton's in Northants? Grafton Underwood and Grafton Regis.
I don't see any online c1800 parish baptisms listed for Grafton Regis on the usual sites.
FindMyPast and Ancestry have some baptisms for Grafton Underwood.

There's an August 1801 baptism for a Susannah Bar(r)ick. Parents John & Elizabeth.

There's also these two baptisms in Grafton Underwood:
Oct 1803 - William Barrick. Parents John & Elizabeth.
Aug 1806 - John Barratt. Parents John & Elizabeth.

So are the three baptisms above the same family? If so, are the Bar(r)ick baptisms a "typo" on the actual parish documents? Did someone hear "Barrick" when it was really Barratt? Or - they're probably two different families.

I think that's the right one, Hillhurst

Northamptonshire Baptisms Index tells me there's six children for John & Elizabeth, all born Grafton Underwood - John, Gabriel, Ann, Susanna, William, and another John.

John and Elizabeth were not married in Grafton

There was a Susannah Barick/Barrick baptised in Grafton Underwood on 21 August 1801, daughter of John and Elizabeth.

A John Barret married Elizabeth Bozfield a few miles away in Sudborough on 2nd November 1788

The 1861 census gives her birth place as Weekly, near Grafton.

Thanks everyone for the replies, it looks to be John and Elizabeth. Strange spelling of Barrett!
