Fitzhenry's of Wexford (New Ross?)
« on: Thursday 01 September 05 20:40 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

It's a while since I posted any messages but I was wondering if anybody has any information on the Fitzhenry family from New Ross.
My Great Grandmother was Ellen Fitzhenry, born about 1845 who I thought was from Waterford and her father's name was Thomas.  It has now come to light that she was more likely to have been born in Wexford and her father may have been a Martin Fitzhenry married to a Sarah McNamara.  Hope somebody can help.

Thanks
Jan

Hello Jan,

There was a Martin Henry in New Ross in 1853 when Griffiths
Valuation of Ireland was taking place in Co. Wexford.

My name is Martin Fitzhenry and the name Ellen has been in my Family as long as I can remember.  Ellen goes from Aunts to Great Aunts. I am 63 years old and a Retired Police Detective in the Boston area.   My Grandparents were not to forthcoming in giving the kids any background.  The name Martin has been used in every generation.  Two Martins are alive today.  I feel they came from Ireland or England.  They all came through Canada and we know what that is about.

From said website: "This Michael Fitzhenry had at least one son, Moses, who lived in Poulpeasty until he died when over ninety years old. Some of Moses' family were still living in the family home in 1986."

I came across some information in the probate of one Mary Fitzhenry. Son (and executor) Moses Fitzhenry, Daughter Annie, sister Kitty Murphy. These were the only kin at the time of the documentation (in 1933). She inherited 200-odd pounds from Owen Redmond. She lived somewhere in New South Wales, but went back to Wexford and died 25/11/1918 at Clonroche, Poulpeasty.
