Do we think this is the same Phoebe or a different one?

Don't suppose we have her father from the marriage to Sylvanus to compare.
Thanks for everyone's help so far. Apologies for neglecting to mention that Sylvanus had adopted the Honeybun surname by the 1841 census.

I've never managed to find out any more information about Phoebe. In censuses, she gives her place of birth as Staple Fitzpaine but I haven't managed to find anything more.

I hadn't found Sylvanus and Phoebe's daughter Elderiah, so that information was most useful (if somewhat sad) - thank you. Interesting that Elderiah was registered in Axminster yet the couple had moved back to Broadway by 1861.

There's a Benjamin WELLS and family on the 1861 enumerated on the line above Sylv* and Lucy.

EDIT: Sorry - I meant Sylvanus and Phoebe. ::)

parish entry of marriage
8 April 1889 St David's Llanwonno Glamorgan
Abram Wembridge full age bach mason Porth father Abram Wembridge deceased
Phoebe Wells full age spinster Porth father Benjamin Wells labourer
Not sure about this as reply #4 seems to suggest that Phoebe was married to Abraham Wembridge by 1871.

They may not have been married in 1871 or 1881 just said they were.

If the 1889 marriage is correct maybe they had to wait until then for some reason?
Don't know but if the fathers name from her marriage to Sylvanus was down as Benjamin Wells it does point to being her.

Another clue as Maureen has found - Benjamin Wells on census above Phoebe in 1861.  Interesting.

Unfortunately, I can't find any mention of Benjamin and Ann Wells in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses. A shame as it would have the potential of answering a few questions.

Looks quite possible that's the correct Benjamin
In 1861 he and Ann have a son John aged 20 b Devon

1897 - John Wells, widower, full age, of South Petherton marries Ellen Wins. His father - Benjamin Wells.
Witness - Phoebe Wembridge

John Wells, 22, son of Benjamin previously married Mary Ann Painter  in Broadway in 1862. Wonder if she's related to Sylvanus?

There's a John Wells of Devon and Ellen in the Rhondda in 1891 - she and many of the children b Somersetshire

Snap Mabel just putting that one together!

I think looking at surname Wills as well as Wells might help too. Been looking for birth registrations for the children of Benjamin listed in 1861.

Sylvanus' mother Hester's maiden name was Painter (I believe she was the daughter of Edward, 1784 - 1854 and Jane Truby or Furby, 1778 - 1863). I haven't researched her siblings/nephews/nieces yet but there could certainly be a family link that way.
