Ancestry membership autorenewal
« on: Monday 22 November 21 14:15 GMT (UK) »
My Ancestry membership is due to renew soon. I don't want to cancel but I do want to decline autorenewal, as I want to decide at the time what I'd like for next year.

I can't find an option on the website to cancel autorenewal, only one to cancel the account altogether, complete with dire warnings about losing all the links on my trees etc.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I dip in and out of A****ry all the while never lost access to my trees they still exist and you will be able to look at them just not look up.
It sounds like a scare story to keep you paying.
But I know it's all Bull.

I have taken advantage of the half price subscription mentioned regularly on here and to take that up you have to cancel before it is auto - renewed.  I have never had any problems with my trees because of this.

Make sure you switch the auto renewal off...............

Once the subscription has expired your account automatically becomes a 'guest' account (which is standard).
As such you can still log in with your email and password, see any tree you have up there, but though you can search you can't view any records.

At that stage just remain logged in, click on the link from this thread.

and get the offer, click on that and it takes you to page where your user name and account info is auto filled in, enter card details, click to pay.

It sometimes takes a few times for the half price offer to appear, keep trying

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

From what I remember you go into your account where it has the details of your membership end date there should be a little box with a tick in it for auto renewal and maybe the words turn off auto renewal . Select turn off auto renewal and follow the on screen prompts still saying are you sure you want to cancel membership. Youíll get an email confirming that auto renewal has been turn off and that you can still access your tree.

As well as the half price offer for Ancestry thereís 25% off Find my past 12 month and 1 month subscriptions until 28th Nov

Thanks to everyone who's responded so far.

I can't find a "switch off autorenew" button anywhere!

Hmm, you are right. I cannot see the auto renew turn off either They seem to have changed it.  From the Help found this, which I think you must have seen.
All accounts are now auto renew.

What happens if you remove your credit card details?

Pull down your username. Go to account setting, it explains what membership you have and has a cancel membership button.
