Father listed as Coppersmith on Ann's marriage cert in 1870.

Quote
Ellen nee Donavon b. 1824 in Ireland d. between 1851 - 1861

There is 3 year old daughter Mary in 1861 so that narrows down a death for her.

Suggest this one

Ellen James Jun 1859 West London age 35
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

A possibility, given that Thomas James still appears to be alive on the marriage record of Mary & George Dunn (if correct, it can be assumed that Thomas is alive given that George’s father is noted as deceased)

1891 Taylor’s Yard, St Saviour Southwark
Thomas James, head, Marr, 67, copper smith lab b. Hereford, Herefordshire
Johanna James, wife, Marr, 66, b. Ireland
Mary Shea, sister-in-law, unmarried, 59, b. Ireland
Mary Shea, niece, 17, b. Ireland

1881 12 Moss Alley, St Saviour Southwark
Thomas James, 58, labourer general, b. Lea, Herefordshire
Johanna James, 60, wife b. Ireland
Mary Shea, 43, sister b. Ireland
Mary Shea, 6, daughter b. Surrey
Dennis McCarthy, 21, son, labourer b. St Andrews, Middlesex
Florence McCarthy, 17, daughter b. St Andrews, Middlesex

This may possibly be Johanna in 1871 at 9 Rope Yard Sails Woolwich
Jeremiah McCarthy, 45, bricklayer lab, b.Ireland
Johanna McCarthy, wife, 45, b. Ireland
Norah McCarthy, dau, 22, b. Ireland
Florence McCarthy, dau, 18, b. Woolwich Kent
Catherine McCarthy, dau, 17, b. Ireland
Michael McCarthy, son, 12, b. Woolwich Kent
Dennis McCarthy, son, 10, b. Woolwich Kent
Bridget McCarthy, dau, 8, b. Woolwich Kent

And if so…. do you know the details of Ellen Donovan? As next door to above is
Jeremiah Donovan, 60, labourer, b. Ireland
Margaret Donovan, 60, b. Ireland

Although very common names I know, and anomalies on some ages and no marriage that I can see for Thomas James and Johanna Shea or McCarthy, but worth a thought perhaps?

Scrap the 1871 above…your Thomas is here….
1871 Verulum Place St Andrew Holborn
Thomas James, 40, lab in tin works, b. Lea, Herefordshire
Joanna James, wife, 40, b. Ireland
Henry James, 14, son, b. Middlesex
James McCarthy, 14, son, b. Middlesex
Denis McCarthy, 12, son, b. Middlesex
Florence McCarthy, 8, son, b. Middlesex
Mary Ann Shea, 34, boarder, b. Ireland

So he remarried Joanna sometime after 1861? I’ll have another look.

So I believe Johanna to have been Johanna Connor before she married a McCarthy. I can find either Thomas or Johanna after 1891 so i'm guessing they died between 1891 - 1901 so that's something I can look into further :)

Has anyone had any luck with the children John, Charles, Thomas and Henry?
