Kirkburton baptism 1718
« on: Tuesday 23 November 21 11:25 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone decipher the attached record, please?

Very poor quality, transcribed as 'Ann daughter of John Robuck, baptised 22 May 1718, Kirkburton'.

There is something written after John's name, indicating his abode, but I can't make it out - [something East?].

And I am not sure that it says 'Ann', either.

Hi
I see the problem. It really is dire.
Had a look on another website and zoomed in and out a bit.
I think it is Ann and the address is Latham Hall.
There are brothers Abraham 21.5.1721 and Thomas 2.2.1712  and sister Sarah 17.8.1715.

A slightly better image from the BT's on FindMyPast.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you both, I agree with Latham Hall. Any suggestions as to where this might be?

I'm not sure if this is the baptism I am after or not. There was  another Ann, father John of [ ? - Hallshaw], baptised Dec 1718 in the chappel.

Any ideas as to place?

Basically, I am looking for an Ann Roebuck, born c 1719, married John Woofenden in Kirkburton in 1740, my husband's 6G grandparents.

John Roebuck of Hollinhouse  in H?stone (maybe Fullstone) who had the other Ann in 1718 and has a wife Hannah on his daughter's Elizabeth bapt 14.11.1711 (Daniel 17.11.1720,Lydia 21.11.1722,Jonathon 26 Dec 1724,Martha 2.11.1726 ,William 17.12.1728,)
Latter Children from his marriage to Mary Reyner by licence 21.2.1717 He is age 41 and she 21 of Greenhill Kirkburton)

There is a Latham House at Hepworth of Bedding Edge Road near the Victoria Tavern.

Bapts of John in the parish for Ann's Dad
John s of Abraham 31.10.1675
John 13.3.1709 s of Henry Robuck of Shelly

There is a Will of John Roebuck of ?house April 1763 which hopefully will help.Burial 14.12.1762 of Limpet Lane.Age 92
Also burial of John Roebuck 30.3.1765 of ?ham could be the one of Latham Hall.
I'd go for the Latham Hall but what do I know ,it could be either.

I lived in Huddersfield area all my life and I'm an AOP

Considering there is no Latham Hall near Huddersfield I know of or in the old Kirkburton parish boundary that included south parts of Holmfirth, I think it could be ? Lascelles Hall that was in Kirkburton parish.

Latham House at Hepworth of Bedding Edge Road near the Victoria Tavern could be a possibility but it comes in th boundry of Barnsley and on old maps 1850 is just a small building in a field  not a setting of an Hall.
